Today Assembly Elections Chair, Gail Pellerin, openly refused to engage questions for a Sacramento political reporter following her decision to block a crucial bill aimed at prohibiting the use of Non-Disclosure agreements (NDAs) within California's legislative process.
Non-Disclosure Agreements have come to the forefront recently after it was exposed that deals in the legislature are made behind closed doors and absent from the political process.
This refusal is particularly alarming given Pellerin’s and other Assembly members previous voting behavior, where they have not hesitated to support bills that were expedited through the legislature. Her excuse of lacking sufficient time to review the proposed legislation stands in stark contrast to voting history and raises serious questions about the transparency and integrity of the legislative process.
Assembly member Pellerin’s actions are profound, but sadly not unique in the California Legislature, denying the public insight into the legislative proceedings that directly impact their lives.
The use of NDAs in lawmaking is a critical issue that deserves open debate and scrutiny, not silence and obstruction. Gail's "No Comment" response when queried about her discussions with the Governor prior to the hearing only deepens the mystery and the frustration and raises questions about corruption at the State Capitol.
It is essential for the public to question and challenge such actions by their elected officials, to ensure accountability and upholding democratic principles in government operations. This situation is not just disappointing; it is downright shocking.
